This week I conducted two research interviews. The first interview gave me the perspective of psychology in a clinical capacity while the second gave a perspective of the research side of psychology.
Something interesting I found out from my interviews is that both of the professionals I talked to did not start out thinking they would be in the field of psychology that they are in now. The same has held true for other psychologists I talked to before ISM. I believe this continues to emphasize how the field of psychology is so diverse in terms of areas you can study. People are constantly trying different things to learn what they like before they can find a specific area to specialize in, leading to different futures that one would anticipate. This observation also aligns with the advice I got from both interviews, which was to try many different things and gain experience in different areas of psychology to find out what I like.
These first few interviews were very positive and informative. I look forward to reaching out to more people and having more interviews so I can learn more from other professionals in the field.
These interviews also helped give me more information that I can use in my research speech, which is a summary of all the work I have done in class so far. I was worried I wouldn’t have enough to talk about, but as I look over all my research, alongside the information I gained from my interviews, I am now worried that I will not have enough time to say everything I want. It is both reassuring and inconvenient just how much I have learned about psychology over these last few months.
I will spend the rest of next week refining and rehearsing my speech before I present it this Thursday, using the collection of all the research, work, and outreach I have done in ISM.
