Preparing to Present

This week I continue my outreach. I have reached out to more people and called a couple clinics. I was able to schedule one interview for the following week that I look forward to.

To prepare for this interview and also to start my original work, I research more into my topic. One theory I found was the theory of learned helplessness where a subject loses their motivation to act due to previous trials showing that their actions can not allow them to escape the negative stimuli. In other words, repeated failure, despite many attempts to overcome them, can cause a person to stop trying as the result will always be the same. I found this idea interesting because it hindered the effectiveness of external motivators. I wonder if there are ways to combat or overcome learned helplessness, and I plan to research more about it.

The following few weeks, we will be giving 10 minute research presentations about the work that we have done and what we have learned so far. While my presentation is not scheduled for this coming week, I will still need to prepare what I want to say as talking for 10 minutes without any plan in mind is not going to result in a successful speech.

There are many exciting things happening this coming week. I will have my first interview and I will be preparing for my speech. The course has truly become an independent study at this point with everyone working on their own projects and research. As the class takes off, I am excited that I have the chance to take part in it.
