This week I went to UNT for the ISM Showcase, a two hour event where we got to present all of our work to professionals, parents, and friends from all the FISD ISM programs. It was similar to the ISM Gallery Walk that we did a week prior but with a different audience. This was again another valuable experience that will help me prepare for a similar Gallery Walk during the Final Presentation Night.
The ISM Showcase also helped me learn how to think on my feet and talk to my audience in a way that they can understand and engage with. During the Showcase, I had the chance to speak with many different people including people older and younger than me and more and less knowledgeable in my topic. I had prepared an elevator pitch to start my presentation whenever someone approached me. However, once the conversation got started, I did not follow as strict of a structure. For instance, I met with someone who had a background in marketing, so I took more time discussing the applications of psychology in marketing rather than emphasizing the other applications. Similarly, if I was talking to someone who played sports, I would talk more about the applications of motivation in sports as I know that is something they can relate to and connect with better than a different application.
I also got a chance to see the work of other ISM students during the Showcase. It was interesting to see what others had done and I also got ideas of what I could add or change in my own poster.
Overall, the ISM Showcase was a great experience that I know will help me in preparation of the Final Presentation Night.
