This week I researched further into my field of interest. As I am studying psychology, I thought a good place to start would be the American Psychological Association. The APA has published many books about the process of organizing, carrying out, and evaluating an experiment that I have started to read.
In one of these publications, I learned more about different experimental methods and what conditions each one should be used in. What I found most interesting from my reading is the seemingly backward way of approaching an investigation. All experiments start with a null hypothesis that the researcher tries to disprove with the results of the study.
This research has helped me get a better grasp of the basics of this field and I'm excited to gain more knowledge as I continue my research this following week. Particularly, I hope to investigate the application of psychology in a work or educational environment. I will investigate how the results of a study can be applied in the real world and how the findings are diffused to a larger audience.
Now that I know more about what I want to study, I will start finding mentors that I can reach out to. In preparation for these mentor meetings, I will develop a list of interview questions and refine my resume. I am looking forward to meeting professionals and gaining more insight into psychology.
